I'll press them for an answer here, because it comes up later. Players can choose if their characters were actually guilty or not from there. Everyone else was arrested at a party in a house full of drugs and violent criminals and if they complete "this one job" they'll avoid the death sentence. Instead, I'll ask who is the most lawful-good character and anoint them as an "Agent of the Lord's Alliance" responsible for the management of this Suicide Squad. Honestly, the stories are all almost always the same "Silent guy with sword" or "lol I'm so random" or "Evil Edgelord" trope anyway. Trying to bring them all together is a mess, so I don't even try. You're playing with strangers and a handful of random backstories. "Suicide Squad" is a story hook I'll run for Adventurer's League sometimes.
